About the Project

The Jerusalem Design Week 2024 was held at Hansen House around the concept of the ark. One of the spaces was devoted to Vaults of Life — a "safe room" dedicated to preserving "species": selected collections of tiny design objects.

The space is organised as a grid of industrial mesh pedestals, each spotlighting a small collection under directed narrow spotlights. The dark room creates a dramatic, intimate atmosphere — highlighting the significance and fragility of the displayed objects.

Pedestals

The space is organised into a grid of pedestals, each spotlighting a small collection.

Visitors walk along the aisles formed by industrial metal grid pedestals, engaging with each section of the display. 90cm mesh pedestals painted black add a structured, gridded appearance — raw material that makes the exhibition approachable. Tabletops of black and transparent acrylic in varying heights accommodate and protect each displayed object.

Space

To highlight the significance and fragility of displayed objects the goal was to design a dramatic ambiance of the space.

The room was kept dark without natural light. A directed narrow spotlight focused attention on each object, creating an intimate and reverent atmosphere — more sanctuary than sterile museum.
